Welcome to another episode of The Doctor Coach School™ Podcast.
If you are an aspiring coach who constantly attracts people who want to pick your brain, this is why it happens and what to do about it.
If you are attracting folks who want to pick your brain, it is because you are seen as an authority.
You have achieved an epic transformation.
And you are not afraid to tell people that you got the goods.
Here’s the problem: you are not making an offer and selling your services.
So, people see you showcasing your incredible transformation, and they want to achieve it.
But since you have not made a compelling offer, they believe that the only way to achieve it is through picking your brain.
You know this to be true because it happens to you as a doctor.
Your family and friends see you as an authority figure. They want to seek your expertise.
They desire help for their issue, but they aren’t your patient.
So, what do they do?
They ask to pick your brain.
“Can you look at this cut on my toe?,” they say while you’re at a birthday party or barbecue.
What do we do in this situation? We draw clear and distinct boundaries for what is the doctor-patient relationship and what isn’t.
You say “If you want me to treat you you have to be my patient.”
That’s the exact same thing that is happening when they slide in your DM for a “coffee chat” or a “pick my brain session”.
They are seeking your expertise.
Your ability to sell is what communicates the boundary.
Your ability to sell says “If you want the transformation I have had in the way I go it, you have to invest in coaching”
Here’s the good news:
If they’ll pick your brain, they’ll pay for your offer.
Once you learn how to sell your offer with certainty and conviction, the people that look up to you will pay for the transformation they desire.
